Highland Destiny Review by D. Dickson "LolaLovesBooks" (Henderson, NV - USA)

Connor MacRae is a wickedly sexy highlander who knows how to make me purr and if I were in his presence I'd breathlessly sigh as I told him, "I canna take it any longer, take me now--here--against the wall!" Mackenzie Stewart is a determined woman who makes me want to shout "You-Go-Girl!" Imagine for a moment that you are thrust 200 years in the past to learn you are the only person capable of ending a curse, to put an end to warring clans. Would you stay and help or just enjoy your little vacation (and a little dilly-dally with Connor) and wait until the portal opens for your return to present day? Would nightmares that have plagued you your whole life be an influencing factor as to whether you help or not? This is the decision that Mackenzie is faced with--well, except for the dilly-dally part, that's all me :-) So, with that said...picture a hottie highlander in a kilt with his sword (umm...I'll leave it up to you as to which sword you want to picture) and get ready for transport to a different time.

Each time I started to read, I was instantly transported to Scotland 1792; rolling greens, lochs, forests and crisp air tickled my senses. Although Castle Eileen Donan could be quite drafty at times, the romantic tension between Connor and Mackenzie seemed to keep it quite warm and cozy! Even though interruptions from phone calls, children, etc., have a way of dizzyingly yanking you back to 2011--the Highland Hussy has a knack for drawing you back to right where you were.

Highland Destiny Review by Just Me "Discover who you are, don't create s... (Nevada)

Okay, so I'm the typical star-crossed lovers, TWILIGHT, ROSWELL fanatic. Two years ago, searching for something a little more heavy in the heat department, I started reading the erotic/supernatural romance genres and found a few favorite authors (Anya Bast, J.R. Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian). While at a Bunko game here in Vegas, Laura Hunsaker's mother gave my friend "Highland Destiny" to read. My friend is so not into these types of books so passed it along to me. At first, the strange font and overly detailed back summary made me cringe. I have to be honest and say that the editing in this book was atrocious. Laura needs to seriously get someone who can spot obvious errors throughout the book and even a page with two paragraphs that don't make any sense!

HOWEVER, the story itself took me by complete surprise. Ignoring the grammatical errors, I was enthralled and glued to the book, spending an ENTIRE night finishing it! It was an absolutely beautiful story! Not only was Connor the strong, protective type, which I LOVE in a romance novel, but MacKenzie was sooooo strong herself, it was really refreshing! The author doesn't describe the sex scenes the same way, over and over or throw in vulgar language that take away from the story. I couldn't believe I'd read almost a third of the book (spoiler alert!) before they'd actually had sex. Just the teasing and flirting and encounters up to that point were INCREDIBLE!

I believe it's rare to find an author (Stephenie Meyer for one!)who has true talent for writing and story-telling. There were no boring, let's skip to the end parts. In fact, I was really hoping for a second book! But that's okay, the ending was terrific and left me thinking about the book all day. A definite MUST read. I can't wait to see what her next project will be!

Highland Destiny Review by Kat Cameron "kiki loves books" (Sugar Land, TX, US)

I am amazed at the other reviews of this very awful book. I can only assume they are friends of the author as I can see no other reason why there are such glowing reviews. The characters are unbelievable and behave in unbelievable ways. Hot one minute, cold the next. Trusting one minute, suspicious the next. Flashes of incredible insight (that really don't make sense) along with stupidity not to be believed (first he knows that she couldn't have betrayed him b/c she didn't have the information that was used to betray him...then he's sure she betrayed him. What?) She is with him a few days when they leap into bed because they are so hot for each other and a few days later her dress is tight across the abdomen and chest because she's pregnant. Why does she appear in his time dressed in 2010 clothes but reappears in her own time apparently NOT dressed in the clothes of his time? The inconsistencies are astounding. There are rules in writing character driven stories and this author breaks nearly all of them. The dialogue is no better. Cliches, homilies and "wow" are way over used. I scanned through pages of uninspiring and boring sex. Then there is the whole jumping POV. First we tell the events from her POV. Then we retell the same events from his POV. I felt like I was reading the same story over and over and over. There were even several incidents of POV switching mid paragraph. Where was the editor of this book? I finished the book because the awfulness was like a sore tooth I can't keep my tongue from probing. I bought this book by accident while looking for a Hannah Howell book (same title). I was getting a little tired of HH and thought maybe this one would be my last but this book, bought by accident on my Kindle, gave me a fresh appreciation for a well written book....which this was definitely not.

Highland Destiny:: Description

Mackenzie Stewart’s in Scotland for a much-needed vacation. During the castle tour, Mackenzie becomes completely enamored with a painting of one of the previous lairds. Two gentlemen come up behind her and, begging her pardon, they kidnap her, dragging her through time. The men are sorcerers attempting to end a feud that has plagued their lands for years. Their patron has begun to dabble in the black arts, and between his irrational thirst for power, and his dark secret, the sorcerers are frightened. They believe Mackenzie can break the Stewart curse. They try to convince her to play along with their crazy scheme: marriage to the evil John Campbell. Before Mackenzie can protest, her carriage is halted and the door thrown open. For a split-second she is arrested by the same beautiful piercing blue eyes that belonged in an oil painting. Mackenzie then finds herself the victim of a second kidnapping! Her new captor, however, does nothing but tempt her body and her temper. Believing her to in fact be the betrothed of his mortal enemy the Campbell, Connor originally sets out to capture his enemy’s betrothed. He never thought he would be so attracted to her that he’d want to keep her. Rating: Spicy
